Job Description
Business Manager
The Business Manager works to ensure the long-term success of Garrity Tools through administrative, financial, and operational planning and support. The responsibilities range from long-term strategic planning and keeping employee performance at peak levels while nurturing job satisfaction, to overseeing sales and collaborating on marketing efforts. They work closely with the Production and Fulfillment Managers as a part of the Management Team to ensure the varying demands of the company are being appropriately balanced and the financial goals of the business are being reasonably met.
When focusing on their Office Manager and Human Resources responsibilities, the Business Manager ensures that the company’s office is in order and employees experience a healthy workplace culture. They maintain the company’s books, administer payroll and benefits, and make sure Garrity Tools is compliant with business and tax regulations. They lead the development of company policies and transform them into executable plans, making sure policies are informed by the input of all team members. The Business Manager also works in collaboration with the entire team to define the company’s culture and create ample opportunities to build a sense of belonging, community, and safety at work.
When focusing on sales and marketing, the Business Manager works closely with the Brand Lead to communicate sales goals and provide feedback on marketing and community-building efforts. Through their work managing this team member, the Business Manager ensures that the company’s marketing presence is sufficient to meet sales goals.
Recommended Skills + Experience
- Experience in multiple aspects of business management through professional experience or higher education in business or a related field
- Effective planning and strategy development skills that incorporate an openness to try new things, collect and receive feedback, work collaboratively, and adjust plans
- Strong skills in financial and budgetary processes with a proficiency in using Quickbooks to manage company finances
- Knowledge of human resources, labor relations, and/or conflict resolution
- Keen organization and multitasking skills with strong ability to keep yourself and others organized and prioritize a high-volume of competing tasks
- Strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to provide consistent and thoughtful written and oral communication among diverse team members
- The Business Manager will use many applications and systems to execute their job responsibilities. Here are the most important systems for an applicant to have familiarity with: Quickbooks Online, Google Workspace and Google Drive, HR systems such as Gusto, ecommerce platforms such as Shopify
- Experience with Team Development and Team Management
- Experience with systems creation and management that effectively creates a sense of teamwork and shared goals
- Knowledge of small business loans, grants, and growth strategies
- Knowledge of democratic workplaces, worker-owned cooperatives, or aspects of this such as consensus decision making, pay transparency, participatory budgeting, etc
- Interest and openness to learning new systems, technology, and business practices
- Experience in small manufacturing or the ceramics industry
